The Data Services tribe is looking for a Developer to join us and help build the systems and applications that will help drive REA forward on its mission to ‘change the way the world experiences property’. We’re using a variety of languages and technologies (including Scala, Ruby, Docker, and AWS) to create a platform that the whole business can innovate on top of. You’ll be deeply involved in the design and creation of the systems that let REA create new data products and insights.

What you will learn:

  • A variety of backend data development tech – we love Scala, Functional Programming and Spark for our new APIs. Depending on the system, we also use Ruby, AWS, Zeppelin/Jupyter notebooks, and anything else that fits the job.
  • Scala & Ruby – most of our existing systems are written in Ruby and SSIS packages, but we’re developing many of our new products in Scala. If Scala or Ruby are new to you, that’s fine provided you’ve got experience in another OO language and have the desire to learn new languages.
  • DevOps – all our developers create, support, and monitor infrastructure using Amazon Web Services. All our apps are tested and deployed using Docker. There’s loads of internal support so don’t be afraid if this is new.
  • Agile – REA is renowned for its agile approach. Teams are given the autonomy to come up with solutions independently in cross-functional teams.

What we expect:

  • Experience designing, developing and deploying software.
  • Ideally some experience with Scala, but at least one object-oriented language such as Java, Python, or C#.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development.
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and getting your hands dirty.

What you will be doing…

As Account Manager Rent, you will be part of our residential sales team – better known as and you will be servicing customers from Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast area. You will be providing a high level of customer support and ensuring our products really enhance the customers you care for. Day to day you can expect:
