The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is seeking energetic and talented people to contribute to the development and implementation of foreign and trade policy across all aspects of the department’s operations. This includes bilateral and regional economic and political relations; international trade negotiations; investment and economic analysis; international security; international legal issues; and multilateral and global issues.
These positions are located in Australia. Successful candidates will be placed in a foreign or trade policy role in Canberra for a minimum of two years. After this period, employees are eligible to apply for alternative positions across the department, including positions overseas, through an internal competitive process.
The department supports flexible working arrangements, including part-time work and job sharing.
This recruitment process will be used to fill current vacancies as well as vacancies which may arise over the coming 12 months.

You will have demonstrated background in one or more areas of policy work relevant to the department’s operations. This may include policy development and implementation; economic analysis and advice; strategic planning; legal analysis; communications; stakeholder engagement; representational work and/or negotiations.

You will be an effective communicator, able to establish and maintain networks and actively manage key stakeholder relationships within DFAT and with other government and non-government agencies.
You will have a sound understanding of the role and responsibilities of DFAT. You will have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. You will display a demonstrated capacity to adhere to APS and departmental values.
