Physics Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Physics at Clarkson University invites applications for a full time Visiting Assistant Professor position in the 2018-19 academic year. Responsibilities will involve teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate level physics courses. Undergraduate courses may include both laboratories and lectures/recitations for first year physics courses, as well as upper level courses for physics majors. The candidate must have Ph.D. in physics or a related field, with evidence for potential in teaching excellence, and should have communication skills necessary to work effectively with diverse groups of students and colleagues. Candidates who are ABD with an expected completion date before of shortly after the date of hire may be considered. Preference will be given to applicants, who apply by June 30 and have completed Ph.D. by that time. Visiting Professor Position

The Institute for Solid State Physics (“ISSP”) of the University of Tokyo invites application for its Visiting Professor positions, as part of its efforts to promote research collaboration with external researchers. The term of the appointment is expected for three to twelve months, and a total of four to six positions are expected to be filled. The specific starting and ending dates of the appointment will be determined in discussion with the host professor, which however will not start earlier than September 2019. We are seeking applicants from the areas where the applicants and ISSP researchers can collaborate based on their mutual interest, the result of which is expected to contribute to significant scientific advancement. At ISSP, many research activities are conducted in the areas of condensed matter physics but other related projects may also be considered.

The successful candidates must demonstrate their academic and scientific excellence, as well as timeliness and good interpersonal skills to get along well with ISSP colleagues.

Assistant Director for Graduate Student Teaching

MIT Teaching and Learning Lab (T+LL), to design, develop, and implement programs and workshops to support graduate students and postdocs in their growth as teachers. Will help build capacity and broaden the reach of T+LL by launching a new graduate teaching assistant liaison program, and by supporting existing programs and services for graduate students on campus. Responsibilities will include setting the direction for a pilot graduate teaching assistant liaison program by working with academic departments and the associate directors for teaching and learning to clarify program goals; collaborating with associate directors for evaluation and assessment on developing and executing an evaluation plan for the graduate teaching assistant liaison program; developing multimedia and print resources to support the work of the liaisons and disseminating evidence-based teaching methods; designing and facilitating trainings for the graduate teaching assistant liaisons; working collaboratively with the liaisons to develop agendas for workshops within their own departments; holding individual consultations with graduate students on teaching; helping build a network connecting resources among academic departments, the T+LL, and other campus units that support graduate students; teaching in the Kaufman Teaching Certificate Program (KTCP); creating and managing the KTCP course website; collaborating with the associate directors for teaching and learning on facilitating TA Days workshops; and conducting occasional research on university teaching and learning and graduate student development.
